My favorite movie of all time. Fantastic music, gripping action, and a range of emotions all filmed against a beautiful North Carolina background. Daniel Day-Lewis (the amazing Hawkeye) and Steven Waddington (the ultimately honorable Duncan) are the standouts.

R.D. Blackmore's great story about a young girl with a secret noble past and the farm boy who falls for her. Although Lorna (Amelia Warner) is about as animated as a piece of cardboard, farmer John Ridd (Richard Coyle) more than makes up for her lack of emotion.

I absolutely love this story. It is unhappy from the beginning until the end. The amazing Ciaran Hinds plays Michael Henchard, a man whose terrible choices in life are fueled by jealousy and selfishness. Still, you feel sympathy and anguish for this man throughout the entire story. Jodhi May as poor Elizabeth Jane is wonderful.

Not as showy as some other Jane Austin flicks, this is the love story of Anne Elliot (Amanda Root) and Captain Wentworth (Ciaran Hinds). The broken-hearted interaction between Anne and Wentworth will leave you breathless.

A Charles Dickens soap opera with some crazy camera effects. Rather tragic in many areas, but it does have a pretty happy ending. There are a couple of really hateful characters, but I couldn't get enough of the sweet John Jarndyce (Denis Lawson - Wedge from Star Wars!) and the hilarious Mr. Guppy (Burn Gorman).

Ah, that headstrong Cathy and that crazy (literally) Heathcliff...a lot of people don't like this version of the story, but I prefer it to the later Masterpiece theatre version. Ralph Fiennes as Heathcliff is so insane that it's completely fascinating to watch.

Clarissa is the miserable story of a virtuous young woman whose life is made unbearable when she becomes the object of lust for a well-known rake, Mr. Lovelace (Sean Bean). As he does everything in his power to try to conquer her will, he finds that her steadfast character has produced in him a genuine love for her. Be forewarned: there is a very disturbing rape scene in the movie.

This is a charming tale of a Jazz Era girl and her search for a husband. Sean Young is wonderful as Myra Harper in this wonderful adaptation of a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
